Different Types of Chinese Cat Breeds

This Chinese cat breed is a very new breed. There is not much known about it except that it is a lot like the Angora cat breed. The Chinese White comes in longhaired and shorthaired varieties, and as its name implies, its fur is pure white.

About Chinese Cat Breeds

There are a few breeds of cats that are associated with China, but not all of them originated from that country. Some of these cat breeds even have “Chinese” in their name but there is no proof or documentation that they indeed came from China. There are two cat breeds known to have originated from China, and they are the Dragon Li and the Chinese White.

Dragon Li

One of the earliest breeds known to be domesticated in China, the Dragon Li, was descended from the Chinese mountain cat. The Chinese mountain cat is a wild cat subspecies in the Asian region. This wild cat subspecies was gradually domesticated and finally, in 2003, was introduced to the world as an experimental cat breed class. It is still a very rare cat breed, making it a darling among the international cat breeding community and giving it a sort of celebrity status. Its other names are Li Hua Mao, Li Hua Mau, or just Li Mao.

This breed of cat is said to mature slowly, which may take as long as 36 months. The males are usually larger than the females. The Dragon Li is also known as a good hunter.

The head of the Dragon Li is long, with its size proportional with its body. Its nose is straight and has no visible break in the forehead. It has a distinct ear which has a sharp tip, a large pair of large almond-shaped eyes usually colored yellow, brown or green. It also has a strong body structure featuring a wide chest with muscles that are well-developed. The coat of the Dragon Li is often thick, short and lies close to its body. It is said not to have a thick undercoat making it vulnerable to cold weather. The coat of the female is usually softer than the males. It has a tabby pattern that is golden brown in color, giving it a very unique look. Its paws are often black with black hairs seen between its toes. The tail is frequently marked with rings, with a black tip.

It is known to have an intelligence that is superior to most cat breeds, as well as an ability to adapt to almost any kind of environment. It is considered quite social in nature, often letting other cats and even people know their temperament clearly.

The Chinese White

This Chinese cat breed is a very new breed. There is not much known about it except that it is a lot like the Angora cat breed. The Chinese White comes in longhaired and shorthaired varieties, and as its name implies, its fur is pure white.
