A Variety of Eco-Friendly Products for Your Cat

You can find eco-friendly products for your pets. These can include dishes, toys, litter, and even beds. While they may seem more expensive to purchase than regular products, they are worth the investment because they will help you do your part to save the environment. This article will give you a basic idea of products that are available and places to look for them.

It can be just as important to the environment that the products you use for the health and upkeep of your pets is ecologically friendly as it is that the products you use for yourself are ecologically friendly. That is why many manufacturers are now producing biodegradable toys, food and water bowls, and pet furniture out of recycled materials. Some of these items can be found in physical retailers such as Petco or Petsmart, while others must be ordered online directly from the manufacturer or from specialized pet product retailers. Here are five eco-friendly cat products you should try, each from a different area of pet care.

Biodegradable Food Bowl - The Green Pet Shop Bamboo Bowl is made from bamboo, rice husks, and plant dyes. It comes in several colors and shapes, to fit your personal needs. Aside from being made out of biodegradable materials, it is also dishwasher safe and repels bacteria. Online retailers such as petsupplies4less.com, petshopusa.com, and mycritterpetsupplies.com carry this bowl, or it can be purchased online directly from Green Pet Shop for $4.99. Similar types of bamboo bowls can also be found at Petco and Petsmart.

Bed Made From Recycled Material - The Peppered Paws Deluxe Slumber Ball from Drs Foster and Smith is a ball shaped cat bed made from recycled soda bottles. It is stuffed with MiracleLoft polyfil and covered by a machine washable, zippered, plush cover. It is also treated with organic catnip and comes in a variety of colors as well as sizes. It ranges from 18 to 38" in diameter so you can find the size that best suits your animals. The Drs Foster and Smith website sells all sizes of the Slumber Ball, priced from $39.99 to $84.99.

Multi-Use Cat Scratcher - Cardboard cat scratchers are cheaper than their carpet and wood counterparts. They are also lighter, easier to move around, and easier to put together (or come fully assembled). The Imperial Cat Vogue 2-in-1 Cat Scratcher is made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper and soy-based inks. Because of its shape, it can serve as both a bed and a cat scratcher, giving it multi-functionality. It also comes with a bag of organic catnip that can be sprinkled on the scratcher or on the floor around it. This product is sold online at stores such as Amazon.com for $39.99 from the manufacturer. Similar cardboard cat scratchers can be found at physical retailers such as Petco, Petsmart, and Walmart.

Recycled Cat Litter - It sounds strange at first, but litter such as Yesterday's News is made from recycled newspaper (not actually from recycled cat litter) formed into pellets or crumbles. It is absorbent and does not create dust like traditional cat litter. Young kittens who are just learning to use the litterbox can benefit from using this type of litter as they may be less inclined to try and ingest it. Besides cats, it is also safe for use as litter and nesting material for rabbits, ferrets, and other small animals. Yesterday's News is available in a variety of bag sizes that retail from $11.49 for the smallest up to $75.99 for the largest. It is sold at most large pet stores.

Organic Handmade Toys - PurrfectPlay makes a variety of toys by hand for cats to play with, including the Kitten Mitten. This mitten shaped toy is created with fleece, organic cotton, and organic cat nip. Cats can enjoy chasing it or flipping it over. It is safe to chew on because it is also made with dye-free fabrics. This specialty toy is available for sale directly from the manufacturer through their online store for $8.25. Similar toys may be found at physical pet supply retailers as well.

Thanks for these great tips, I have 6 cats.

I have a recycled scratcher for these knuckleheads, but only two of them use it. I have 4 in total. I think I got it at Walmart.
